Large quantities of unlicensed medications have actually been seized by Department of Health officials during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A man was spoken with by department officers about unlawfully importing and subsequently providing unlicensed impotence medicines through the internet.

The 47-year-old was also questioned about other medicine offences.

He will now be the of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was carried out by the department’s Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, said: “It is essential that we get the message across that unlicensed medications can be hazardous.

“These kinds of items being sold, generally online, have gone through no quality control and there can be no guarantee about their safety.

“You just do not know what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More importantly, you do not understand the effect drugs like this may have on your health.”
